WebService.dir - WebService Directory Project
The WebService Directory Project is essentially a user friendly, web based front end to the Apache JUDDI project. Consider it a Public Domain listing database for Public Domain WebServices. WebServices are proliferating on the Internet, and standards emerging include specifications for the WS.* stack, UDDI, WSDL, and a host of other specifications. UDDI, combined with WSDL, is a way to describe Interfaces a common format, and a mechanism for the discovery of those interfaces, known as WebServices.
Just the first two pieces of a larger puzzle. Only problem is the difficulty in leveraging even those standards without programmer interaction.
What's needed is an easily accessible directory listing those services that individuals or companies choose to expose to the public. The only restriction being the service must be offered at no cost, and the code behind the service must be available through normal Open Source channels. The project is currently finalizing the first round of detailed design. The test site will be enabled at www.SoftstarResearch.com/webservices.
